White desks with a hutch are a lovely addition to any child’s room irrespective of the décor. White is elegant and harmonizes with the rest of the furniture easily. More importantly, children don’t find it boring. • Cover. A lid is an easy way to hide the clutter on the desk, especially if it resembles a dumping ground. This also keeps the dust away from the computer and makes the desk easier to clean and maintain. However, desks with lids are pricier than the rest.

The desk with hutch will be subject to a lot of abuse. So, you can cut corners and buy a cheap MDF table or cheaper varieties of wood like Douglas fir.

Or, you can buy the best quality hardwood that will not bend, dent, warp or chip even if you have ten kids beating it to a pulp. The best contenders in this category are red oak, poplar or maple.

If you wish to tighten those purse strings a little, plastic or melamine tables can be a good option.
