Capiz shell lamps are made from the shell of the windowpane oyster. It is also known as Placuna placenta and commonly known as capiz shells. They are translucent and primarily used to make lamps and other decorative items for the home.
These shells are sought after by lamp makers due to the translucent properties that make light glow through them. Capiz shells allow you to customize your choices by choosing between a variety of colors such as pink, purple and blue.
Capiz shell floor lamps are easy to clean, but they should be handled with care when washing because they are extremely delicate. Also, only clean your capiz shell floor lamp when necessary; their fragility means they shouldn’t be moved frequently.
To clean your lamp, dampen a cloth in some cool water, wringing it until all the excess water is removed. Next, gently wipe your lamp to remove any dust, dirt, and grime that has collected.
The next step is to fill a bowl with luke-warm water and a squirt of washing up liquid. Dampen the cloth again, and wipe the shade to remove any stubborn stains or marks. Rinse the cloth through until the soapy solution has gone, and gently wipe the lamp again to remove any residue.
Do not use bleach or alcohol-based cleaners, as these may change the shell’s color or cause them to become brittle and break.
