Amidst the storied streets of Washington DC's historic Georgetown neighborhood, a remarkable transformation unfolds. The Georgetown Renovation project breathed new life into a piece of local history. The journey began with a devastating fire that nearly consumed everything inside the childhood home of the client. Yet, amidst the ashes, there arose an opportunity to reimagine and recreate, preserving the essence of the past while embracing the possibilities of the future.

Originally constructed in the 1890s and expanded in the 1930s, the home bore the weight of time and memory. With its Neo-Federal details and unique freestanding layout, it served as evidence to the neighborhood's rich architectural heritage. When faced with the challenge of rebuilding, the team approached the project with reverence and innovation. Street-facing openings, meticulously reconstructed by hand, paid homage to the home's historic charm while meeting the stringent standards of the local historic review board.

As the restoration progressed, a vision of modern elegance emerged. Interior transom windows ushered natural light into lofty spaces, while a new skylight above the staircase bathed the entry hall in a soft glow. Every detail, from the continuous newel-free rail to the subtle trim profiles, struck a delicate balance between past and present.

The basement underwent a dramatic transformation, with lowered ceilings creating space for a new media room and bedroom suite. Meanwhile, the rear living area seamlessly merged with the outdoor court through expansive steel glass doors, blurring the boundaries between inside and out.

Perhaps most striking of all is the revelation that this rowhouse, while nestled among its neighbors, stands almost entirely freestanding---a rarity in Georgetown. With less than a quarter of its perimeter shared with neighboring houses, the home boasts a sense of openness and possibility seldom found in urban living.
