Nestled in the serene landscapes of Montecito, California, the Coyote Circle is an example of thoughtful design and a profound understanding of family dynamics. Designed by Studio Lyon/Szot, this 750 square foot addition to an existing Spanish-style home from the 1970s beautifully marries modernity with the rich heritage of California architecture.
The Coyote Circle project was conceived with a vision to create a connected living space capable of accommodating the multigenerational needs of a family. Studio Lyon/Szot, in collaboration with Allen Construction, embarked on a journey to enhance the existing structure while infusing it with new life and functionality.
One of the primary challenges was to unify the small, fragmented rooms of the original home into a cohesive and fluid living experience. The design team drew inspiration from contemporary Portuguese and Spanish aesthetics, resulting in a material palette that resonates with both tradition and innovation.
A key aspect of the brief was to develop a flexible wing that could adapt to the evolving needs of the homeowners, whether it be for future in-home care or expanding family gatherings. Central to this concept was the creation of a shared space where cooking, living, and entertaining seamlessly converge.
