Free-Standing - This type of headboard doesn't need to be attached to the wall or bed. This also means that it can stand on its own. The free-standing headboard excels at decorative purposes, especially if you are fond of changing your headboard time and time again.

What fabrics are used to upholster headboards?

Another thing to consider is the fabric. Nowadays, there are plenty of fabric types, but the most common ones are below.

Leather - When it comes to being luxurious, leather is the top choice. It looks beautiful and its very durable. On the downside, it can be very expensive.
Polyester - This type of fabric is synthetic. Because of such, it's economical, which makes it a great option if you don't have a lot of money to work with. On the downside, pure polyester is not as durable compared to cotton and leather.
Cotton - The fabric that has been around for ages. It's soft and easy to maintain. When it comes to durability and price, it sits in between polyester and leather.

What types of wood are used in making headboards?

These days, most wood types can be categorized into fiberboard, plywood, or solid wood.

Solid Wood - This is the most durable wood type, and it's also the most expensive.
Fiberboard - This type is made from wood chips that are compressed and glued together. Thus, it's the most economical option. On the downside, it's the least durable.
Plywood - This type of wood is made from thin and long slices of wood that are compressed together. It's a lot more durable than fiberboard, but not as much when compared to solids.
