In a city known for its stunning architecture, Wurrungwuri stands out as a bold and visionary interpretation of modern living. A Symphony of Design and Nature

The steep waterfront site presents a unique challenge that Wurrungwuri masterfully negotiates. The residence cascades down several levels from the street to the harbor, creating a flowing, organic form that mirrors the natural landscape. This cascading design is not just about aesthetics; it allows the house to spread across a series of spaces that can effortlessly transition from intimate family moments to large social gatherings.

Bridging the Past with the Present

One of the most striking features of Wurrungwuri is its integration of an original sandstone cottage with contemporary additions. The cottage has been painstakingly restored and connected to the new structure with a series of junctions. At the heart of this connection is a delicate white steel staircase encased in patterned blonde brick, symbolizing the seamless stitching together of old and new.

Unparalleled Views and Spatial Harmony

Maintaining a clear view of the harbor from the street was a key design priority. This view is preserved along the site's edge, guiding visitors into the home. Inside, the view cleaves the building's form, enhanced by the central courtyard light well and the gallery above the grand dining room. The design seamlessly incorporates spaces for the client's art collection, particularly on the level connecting the pool, cabana, lounge, and sandstone bedrock. Generous terraces extend from the kitchen, pool, and garden, while a roof garden maximizes green space and echoes the interior's rolling forms.

Sustainable Innovation at its Core

Wurrungwuri's innovative design extends to its sustainability features. A sophisticated heat pump system exchanges energy with the harbor water through titanium plates, maximizing heating and cooling efficiency. The house also features protected thermal mass, an insulated shell, controlled natural lighting, and clever sun-shading. Windows are strategically placed to harness sea breezes, ensuring energy efficiency and thermal comfort.

Embracing Family Life

Above all, Wurrungwuri is a celebration of family life. Designed to accommodate both private moments of solitude and lively social gatherings, the home offers a sanctuary for its inhabitants. Generous terrace spaces open from the kitchen, pool, and garden, providing ample opportunities for relaxation and entertainment. From intimate rooftop retreats to joyful Juliette balconies, every corner of Wurrungwuri exudes warmth and hospitality.
