Nestled near the enchanting colonnades of Karlovy Vary and the prestigious Hotel Thermal, the Karlovy Vary Apartment stands as a remarkable testament to the seamless fusion of history and contemporary design. This 1900s gem underwent a complete reconstruction, under the skillful hands of Petra Ciencialová and Kateřina Průchová from Plus One Architects, breathing new life into its historic bones. Let's take a closer look at the transformation of this 68 m² space, now a stunning residential haven.

Restoring the Past:
The main objective of this project was to revive the apartment's original dimensions and atmosphere. Stripping away disparate structures, tiles, and layout changes, the architects brought back the apartment's inherent charm. The removal of doors, addition of transom windows, and reconfiguration of rooms resulted in a more contemporary layout with two separate bedrooms and a connected living core.

Bringing Light to Life:
**In the living room, a key focus was on opening up the space. **A kitchen unit seamlessly integrated into a newly created niche between the kitchen and living room, connected by an interior window---a nod to the apartment's historic grandeur. This thoughtful design choice not only maximized space but also fostered a sense of openness.

Preserving Heritage:
Original wooden floors in the bedrooms were meticulously preserved, and a new finish applied to enhance their timeless beauty. The bathroom, marked by a spacious irregular-shaped shower, washbasin, and toilet, embodies a minimalistic approach. Throughout the apartment, a restrained selection of materials and a unifying design scheme contribute to a calm and inviting atmosphere.

A Symphony of Colors:
The leitmotif of the interior design is the exposed original paintwork on the ceilings and walls. This unique touch infuses each room with bold yet subtle hues, paying homage to the apartment's historical significance.

Furnishing with Flair:
In the final phase of the project, the Karlovy Vary Apartment was furnished with minimalist pieces from the design studio Janský & Dunděra, along with items from the renowned brand Todus. These carefully selected pieces complement the apartment's aesthetic and elevate its overall appeal.
The Karlovy Vary Apartment is more than just a reconstruction; it's a testament to the harmonious blend of history and modernity. Petra Ciencialová and Kateřina Průchová's remarkable work brings a piece of Karlovy Vary's history back to life, offering a glimpse into the past while embracing the comforts of the present. This project is a showcase of architectural finesse and a source of inspiration for those passionate about preserving the past while looking towards the future.
