How to Find the Perfect Square Dining Table For Your Décor

So symmetrically pleasing that they're bound to make a statement and wide enough to guarantee plenty of legroom for everyone, square dining tables are both a stylish and practical choice.

There are so many different square dining tables to choose from. However, picking a random model without first taking into consideration the interior style of your dining room can be… the opposite of symmetrically pleasing.

Actually, we were just trying to be nice: it can look awfully mismatched!

But don't worry: finding the right square dining table for your décor isn't that hard, once you know what to look for.

PS: most of these tips work with round dining tables, too!

Contemporary interiors

Since this style focuses on a practical approach to maintain an overall streamlined look, the symmetry of square dining tables is already a head start:

  • Look for models with clean lines that adopt this symmetrical design in their legs and corners too;
  • While wood is still a popular option, you want to stick to lighter ones or even move away from a natural look, opting for white, black, or a saturated monochrome model that matches your room's palette;
  • You can also achieve a similar look with steel or metal. Or why not opt for a marble finish or a majestic square dining table for 10 with a see-through glass top?

Mid-century modern interiors

Because mid-century modern interiors draw inspiration from the trends of the 50s and 60s, this usually translates into horizontal-based and rectangular designs.

It can seem a bit of a pickle, but don't worry: if you're set on square dining tables, there are other ways to echo this décor style!

  • The first trick is to reinforce its characteristic warm palette by choosing a darker wood like mahogany, walnut or ebony;
  • The other is to look for designs with slightly outward-pointing legs;
  • If you can find both, that's double mid-century modern points!

Minimalist interiors

There's this misconception that minimalist must be synonymous with bland and boring but it's actually the opposite.

Thanks to the streamlined designs that characterizes its furniture, this interior style can help you highlight a smaller but selected number of special items!

  • In tables, look for designs that feature very thin legs, either vertical, slightly outward-pointing, or with creative but still symmetrical and streamlined designs;
  • A single central pedestal is another minimalistic alternative;
  • You either want your square dining table to be entirely made of the same material and finish, combine a wooden top with metal legs, or involve a wooden top and legs in two different colors;
  • Make sure that at least one of them matches your palette.

Scandinavian interiors

Nordic and minimalist interiors have a lot in common since they both rely on fairly basic and streamlined designs. However, what sets Scandinavian décor apart is its focus on all things natural:

  • Look for minimalist tables made of wood and, if possible, with a natural-looking finish;
  • Alternatively, you can opt for a combination of natural wooden legs and a tabletop in a different color;
  • What color, you ask? Anything from a natural palette but, for a dining room, we think that white and yellow would be the best options.

Industrial interiors

Thriving on the unfinished rawness of that slightly hipster warehouse-like vibe, industrial décor has been growing in popularity over the past few years.

The best news? It's incredibly easy to replicate when it comes to dining tables!

  • Just remember these keywords: simple, wood, metal;
  • Look for symmetrical and streamlined designs that combine a wooden top and darker metal legs. For example, a square dining table for 8 that looks like it could have been stolen from your closest third-wave coffeeshop.

Shabby chic

More feminine and with nostalgic vintage elements, shabby chic interiors offer a few different options but it really depends on what vibe you've already gone for in your dining room:

  • Overall, this décor style's characteristic features are white, wood, a discolored feel, harmonious shapes, and decorative details;
  • Have a look around and see which of these you can already find in your dining room;
  • For example, you could have a wooden table with a white top and curved legs, or a natural-looking wooden top with an aged, discolored feel.

French country interiors

Rectangular, oval and round tables are more obvious choices for French country dining rooms. This does most certainly not mean that you can't find a square dining table that fits yours, of course!

  • Ideally, because this style combines elegant and rustic vibes, you want to look for a design with white or natural wooden elements, harmonious legs, and some decorative details on its base;
  • However, since it's unlikely that you'll find many square dining tables that tick all those boxes, just focus on one or two of those elements. Once you add it to your French country dining room, it will all come together perfectly. Pinky promise.

Bohemian interiors

Characterized by a carefree, spontaneous approach, bohemian interiors are probably the style that leaves you the most freedom when it comes to adding furniture.

We'll be honest: with dining tables, it's actually the colorful details of your chairs' cushions that will really help you tie your bohemian room together. So what can you do when it comes to choosing the table itself?

  • Wood, wood, wood. Given the exotic and global inspiration behind bohemian interiors, you definitely want to stick to this natural material;
  • Try and find one with a quirky element, like a carved section or unusually shaped legs;
  • However, don't be afraid to add a splash of color if you can!
