Cockatoos, smaller amazons, smaller African greys, mini macaws, Senegal, Pionus, lories, and Quakers are typically considered as medium-sized birds. For such birds, a bar spacing of one-half to three-fourths of an inch is ideal.
Large birds include African Greys, toucans, Hyacinth macaws, and Congos. The bar spacing of three-fourths of an inch to one inch is ideal for these large-sized birds.

What's the right thickness of bird cage bars?

The thickness of the bars will also play an important role when choosing the right iron bird cages. If the bars are not thick enough, your bird may be strong enough to cause broken welds, bent bars, and other damages.

For small-sized birds, the ideal bar gauge is 2 mm.
For medium-sized birds, the ideal bar gauge is 2.5 mm.
For large-sized birds, the ideal bar gauge is 3.5 mm.
